In "Backfill", the user has an extra tab (as shown in image below) called "Projects". This allows the user to perform cross-project "Backfill" (submit more than 1 project to a channel at the same time). This feature enables the user to create a new "Backfill" project (as highlighted in image below).
Right-clicking on the new created backfill project to add a channel (shown in image below).
the user can double click on the channel to open the overview (as shown in image below).
(Cross-Project) Channel Overview Tab
There are several areas about the channel on the "Overview" tab:
(Cross-Project) Packaging Tab
Although the concept of packaging is still the same in Backfill, the actual functions available to the user are different.
Under the "Manage Projects" feature (shown in image below), the user has the following new options available:
This feature allows the user to add plan's to the project he wishes to "Backfill". For example, when the user wishes to submit to a channel across several plans for several new devices that are now supported, the user would select the "Add Plans" feature and at the screen shown below, select any plans from the list of available plans he wishes to use.
At this point, the user would now select the "Add Bundles" feature automatically selecting every bundle that is supported (i.e. at least 1 device and 1 Language supported). Once this has been done, the user may find he has some outstanding tasks that need satisfying. As in plan view, if the user has outstanding tasks, he will see the word "Problem" next to his bundle along with a red traffic light. Double left-clicking on the task from the lower tasks pain will open the corresponding pane the user needs to satisfy the task. (NOTE: see here for a more detailed explanation of task satisfaction)
Force Devices: (NOTE: use "Force Devices" before packaging or submission when using the cross project backfill feature. For any assigned bundle that has had the "Force Devices" feature set against it, the bundle state will change to "Forced").
If the user is submitting backfill to a saturated channel (the user can submit only bundles which supports a minimum of 1 device group and 1 language), a problem can sometimes arise where a device has already been submitted previously. This will lead to the device being greyed-out leaving the user unable to submit for it again. Force devices allow the user to override the filter and Force the device through for backfill.
To use the "Force Device" feature, the user selects the devices tab (highlighted in image below). This will show the user any greyed-out devices. He can then use "Force Devices" to re-select the device. The list will automatically refresh changing the device icon provided the device is supported by the channel for which the submission is being prepared.
In the "Backfill" perspective, the "Backfill" plan view now has a menu action called "Force Devices" which can be performed against 1 or more projects OR 1 or more plans. "Force Devices" invokes a wizard allowing channel selection and then displaying the channel devices from which the user may select 1 or more devices. All selected plans for this channel that have previously been backfilled are forced to backfill these devices. Any open "Backfill" plans will receive notification and should enable any bundles which support the selected devices.
Once the user is happy he has forced any devices needed for all plans to which they wish to submit "Backfill", they can continue to package and submit as he would for plan view.
